Following Your Passion

Photography has been a passion for me for a long time now. Ever since I put my hands on my first digital camera. What really spurred it on was a road trip my husband and I took in our 5th Wheel. Everywhere we went we found beauty, traveling through Oregon, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho. With such wonderful landscapes it was hard not to take a good photo.

My passion for photography developed into a passion for building websites. I started off building a site where I could share my photos. Once that was done, I built another, then another, and just kept going, each time learning a bit more about what I was doing. For me it was a challenge and a lot of fun.

A little over a year ago I got involved with an non-profit organization here in Thailand, where I now live.

I offered to build them a website, and at first was afraid I had bit off more than I could handle. Building websites for myself was one thing, this was a whole different adventure.

Again, I went through a learning curve, this time a very steep one. I am happy to say that I was able to complete the project, and continue to maintain the website for them.

This has lead to my current hot passion, climate change and global warming.

The organization I work for has several projects going on, a Children’s Home for disadvantaged hill tribe children, providing them with the opportunity to escape a life of poverty through education. Project Access helps the disabled and elderly in the community that have no family or friends to help care for them. The microenterprise program provides really poor women a fair trade wage for their artisan crafts, we help them with design, materials, and marketing.

And then there is our Environmental Project.

While I admire the work that is being done in each project, the more I learn about climate change my passion in this area increases. And each day I learn a little bit more.

ostriches

I have always believed the story that when an Ostrich is afraid it would hide it’s head in the sand. I always related that to people denying that climate change is an issue that needs to be addressed, they simply ignored the evidence by putting their heads in the sand.

Turns out that it is not true about ostriches putting their heads in the sand, when they are confronted with danger they lay their long necks on the ground to make them less visible.

But people are still sticking their heads in the sand.

Climate change is not going away, it is not going to fix itself, it is up to us to make changes.

And that is actually a good thing!

It is forcing us to clean up our act, not only reducing our own carbon footprint we leave behind, but major changes in how we treat our environment.

The steps we must take will lead to cleaner air, safer drinking water, better food production, and a reduction in the severity of the out of control weather conditions around the world. And that is something I can definitely get behind and support.
