The Bigger Picture

I am still stunned over Trump winning the election. I had no idea how many Americans clearly do not see the bigger picture. My first reaction was disbelief, it simply could not be. How? Why? I blamed it on stupidity and ignorance, greed and a high dose of intolerant people. Those people make up almost half of the population, which is a scary thought all by itself.

No matter what nerve Trump’s sideshow reverberated in people to cause them to vote for him, the overall impact of what has been done is deplorable. I try to be optimistic and think that maybe I am wrong, perhaps it won’t be as bad as I fear. That optimism lasts about as long as it takes for my mind to take a look at the bigger picture.

If Trump, as President, were to surrounded himself with decent, trustworthy, intelligent, tolerant and experienced advisors, that would be one thing. But from the line up of his cabinet members that have been named so far that is not going to be the case. Reality check. The President does not run the office alone, who he surrounds himself with for expert advice is crucial to how decisions are made. Decisions that impact not only our lives, there is a global impact as well.

America is not an island unto itself, we are participants in a global world, whether people like the idea or not. I am assuming most people who voted for Trump either do not want to acknowledge that, have no clue, or just don’t care.

For the people that place the blame on the government for their unhappiness, and voted for Trump to make a change, you have succeeded, but I am pretty sure it is not going to be the change that you were expecting, nor will it make your life any better.

To my children, and my grandchildren all I can say is I am sorry. You deserved a better future than what has been forced on you.
